Before Entering your art on-line:

You’ll be entering your art into a website called “CaFE – Call for Entry” that will be handling all the art entries for this exhibit.
Deadline is March 5th, 2018

Things to have done in advance of entering the CaFE website:
1.
Take a Photo/Video of your art/performance
Make sure the photograph or video of your art meets the above requirements, or it will be disqualified.

Hints and Tips:
Two-Dimensional art (flat or one-sided art): Take it outside into full SHADE and lay it flat on a flat surface (driveway/sidewalk). Line up your camera/phone directly over the top of art, lining up the edges of the art with the edges of your camera’s view frame.

  • Preparing your photo to submission:
    ~Format: JPEG

Important: If your 2-D art is chosen to be in the show:
Your 2-D artwork will need to safely FRAMED with a wire hanger across the back. “Safely” framed means:

If it is a photograph, there will need to be a small space between the photo and the glass, usually provided by a matt.
If it is acrylic or oil painting on a wrapped canvas, and is NOT framed, then the SIDES of the canvas will need to be painted.

Three-Dimensional art: (sculpture or assemblage) Take a photo of your art piece: Take is outside (into the full spectrum light of the sun) in the morning or in the SHADE. Make sure the background behind your sculpture is bland and doesn’t have lots of stuff that will distract from your sculpture.
See above for preparing your photo for submission.

Instrumental Performance: Your video can be of you on an actual stage, in a show, performing, or just in your home, but it should be during a SOLO performance. The “videographer” (friend or family member) should be close to you for the best sound and sight, or zoom in so that you FILL the screen leaving out others that might distract.
If taking a home video, find a smaller echo-free room. Make sure good light is shining on the front and/or side(s) of the performer.

  • Preparing your video for submission:
    ~
Format it as any one of these: 3GP, WMV, AVI, MOV, ASF, MPG, MP4, M2T, MKV or M2TS
~Aspect Ratio: 4:3 or 16:9 (size across as it relates to size down)

Dance performance:Your video can be of you on an actual stage, in a show, performing, or just in your home, but it should be during a SOLO performance. The “videographer” (friend or family member) should be close to you for the best and sight, or zoom in so that mainly you FILL the screen leaving out most of the others.
If taking a home video, find a room big enough that your videographer can be far enough away to capture your moves without too much camera movement. Make sure your have strong light that is shining on the front and/or side(s) of the performer and place the music is close to the videographer.
See above for preparing your video for submission.

Poetry/Prose/Short Story: You will submit a single photo of your written/typed literary piece. If more then one page, place all pages in the same photo. They will be enlarged before being read by judges.
See above for preparing your video for submission.

2.
Prepare a statement of 1000 words or less about your relationship to this ART entry. Perhaps you could write about why you created this art, and/or what might have inspired you to create, and/or why you made the choices you made, and/or why you did it the way that you did. No need to write all about your art-filled history, or your general philosophy about art. It can be as short at you’d like. Grammar and spelling will not enter into the judging process (within reason.)
Write this up in advance of your on-line submission and then just copy and paste it into the box provided.

3.
Be prepared to pay the $5.00 entry fee, either with credit card or PayPal. Financial aid is available. Contact Julie at JFlanaganArt@gmail.com to apply for a submission coupon.

4. (optional)
Just for fun, go ahead and begin the CaFE entry process, just to learn about it. You can always drop out at any time. Below is a bit of moral support for those tech-tentative artists. The link is below.

Remember: ART Entry deadline: Friday, February 26, 2017 !!
Entering your art on to CaFE website:
You’ll be entering your art into a website called “CaFE – Call for Entry” that will be handling all the art entries for this exhibit. It’s very easy to enter; just follow the directions on the site.  Here are some basics to know about the process:

— You will first enter your name and password to gain access to the site. Then you’ll “open an account” in the CaFE website as an artist. It’s required and free. You’ll then create a “Profile” (a bit about you)
— Then up you’ll upload your digital “jpeg” photo (jpeg a format for your photo and our computer will allow you to “save” your photo “as a jpeg”)
— You will then place your “Image” (photo of your art) or “Video” (movie of your performance) into a storage location called your “Portfolio,” (your “case” or “album” of photos) You will only by allowed to enter one photo at a time and each time will cost $5.00. You enter as many art works as you like, but understand two things: each entry will be a separate process that will cost $5.00 and only ONE will be accepted for judging. That one will be chosen by the Future of the Arts committee before sending it on the judges.
— You will then begin the “entry” process for moving your artwork’s photo/video from your “Portfolio” into the “PV Future of the Arts CALL for Entry” which will often be referred to as your “CALL.” (used as a noun for “the calling” of you for entry into the PV show). Just follow the directions; they are very clear. If you don’t understand something, there will be a handy link that will explain everything quite clearly.

If necessary, call or email Julie Flanagan with the PV Arts Council:
jflanaganart@gmail.com
cell: 913-710-6804

(FYI about CaFe: This CaFe program hosts many other exhibition CALLS around the country for professional artists to enter. This is why CaFE gives you a “portfolio” for storing your photographed/videotaped art, allowing you reach into your portfolio again and again if you were to enter other CALLS in the future. But this will be only CALL that’s for children in the Kansas City area this year.)

The City of Prairie village provides insurance for artwork selected for the show up to a value of $5,000. The artist’s parent is responsible for obtaining additional coverage for any piece of artwork valued over this dollar amount.

All tangible art work MUST be for sale. The Sales Commission to the Gallery is 40%. Prices listed on the entry are binding and cannot be changed after submission to the show is made.
